Curation starts with great content. It’s the impulse you had as a teenager when you discovered a song you instantly loved and rushed to your friends to make them listen to it. Or the awesome article you just have to share. On Scoop.it, we see great content being curated every day, every minute and – to our great pride – under every format: text, blog posts, articles, infographics, videos, pictures and also presentations.
A few weeks ago, we received an email from Jon and Sylvain at SlideShare: they had seen significant and growing traffic from Scoop.it and wanted to meet us. Sylvain had been a Scoop.it user for a while but Jon had just learned about us from seeing the referral traffic stats. We had a great discussion.
SlideShare doesn’t need an introduction: the platform has become the default standard to upload and share presentations on the Web. More than 7 million were uploaded by SlideShare users, generating more than 30 million unique visitors per month. As Jon explained, SlideShare is a content creator platform: authoring these presentations takes time, often being the result of weeks or months of reflexions. We instantly saw a great complementarity with Scoop.it and our community of curators.
We knew curators already loved presentations: perhaps better than any other formats, they let readers consume them at their own pace, making it an interactive, visual and engaging experience. They can also be embedded which means they can stay in the context defined by the curator. What we learned from our friends at SlideShare is that, in return, curators were great for presentations too. The traffic sent to SlideShare by Scoop.it users is the result of an interesting combination: endorsement to great content, context, viral spread to social channels to qualified, topic-relevant audience are just among the things curators bring on a daily basis.
The synergies were obvious.
So today, we’re happy to announce our integration with SlideShare. It will make it easier than ever to curate presentations:
– From your Topic Management menu, you can now source specifically SlideShare presentations that match the keywords of your topic. Go to Manage Sources and then Advanced Options, type the keywords… et voilà! (Tip: take the opportunity to revisit your other content sources if you have many others).
– Publish presentations in 1-click with the Scoop.it button without having to worry on the format: they will look great on your Scoop.it page as well as when shared on Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc…
– The embed format has also been optimized to include a link back to the SlideShare author as well as embedded sharing options.
– On the slidehare.net site, remember you can scoop any presentation with the Scoop.it bookmarklet and instantly get an optimized format on your Scoop.it page once published.
And if you’re also a SlideShare user, leverage the new distribution opportunities this integration provides: search and follow the curated topics which are relevant to the content you produce, engage with their curators and suggest your latest SlideShare presentations to them: if it’s on topic, there’s a great chance they’ll publish it and distribute it. You should also create your own topic pages to mix your own created presentations with curated ones you found also relevant to your audience.
Just like love and marriage, Creation and Curation go together like a horse and carriage. So go ahead and scoop those slides!
